What the estimate includes

The calculator annualizes the inputs, applies tax rules, then divides the result by your selected number of paychecks.

01 · FEDERAL2026 standard deduction and marginal brackets for Single or Married Filing Jointly.
02 · FICA6.2% Social Security to $184,500, 1.45% Medicare, plus Additional Medicare where applicable.
03 · STATEPublished 2026 state brackets, standard deductions where available, and selected employee programs.

Before you rely on the number

  • Withholding can differ from annual tax because of Form W-4 elections, credits, bonuses, dependents and payroll timing.
  • Local and city taxes are not included. They matter in places such as New York City and parts of Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
  • Personal exemptions, phaseouts, special recapture rules and most state credits are not modeled. “N/A” state standard deductions are treated as $0.
  • California, Idaho, Arkansas and part of North Dakota use thresholds whose final 2026 inflation update was still pending in the research. Arizona's standard deduction has a conformity question.
  • Employer-size assumptions affect CO, DE, ME, OR and WA premiums. Use the selector when it appears.
